Puppy Selection Process

Puppy Selection Process

After puppies are born we put an individual color collar on each. Using these we can track weights each day, and our Vet can keep accurate records.

We will notify parents who have made deposits with a phone call and by email.

We will send out some litter stats, some great group litter pictures and a shopping list so that you can get ready for your new baby.

Keep in mind, they look like small manatees at this point, but will we know colors and sexes.

We will send weekly pictures and updates, so you can keep tabs on the litter and develop your favorites. We also post photos/videos on Facebook and Instagram, as we have puppy cams in our whelping and puppy areas.

Step 1-–For puppy selection, choice order is based upon deposits received first, and if there isn’t a match for you in the current litter, you will move to the top of the list on the next litter. We will post and send out early photos for you to start getting some favorites.

Step 2-–At the four week mark all selections will need to be made– we are typically weaning puppies from Mommy and switching to puppy chow smoothies for the next week. At this point, if you are local, you are welcome to come visit the puppies to make your selection.

Step 3-–At the six week mark, we do some temperament testing to determine pups for special needs. If you are adopting a service dog, if you have a busy household with kids and/or other dogs, we can recommend puppies that would have personalities more suited to different situations.

Step 4-–At the eight week mark, puppies can go home. We will set a pick up time, so that we can spend time with you going over some important details—training, food, future vet visits, and some important don’ts.

If you are flying in, we’ll meet you at the airport, or place of your choice.

We will transport and hand deliver your puppy for a small mileage or flight fee. We will chat about this in advance to work out the details. We prefer not to ship puppies alone on planes—too much can go wrong with a small puppy on a long flight.

Puppies staying for Boot Camp will have a seamless transition, and an easier time training without so many brothers and sisters vying for attention!
