Most ask, “what exactly is a Guardian?”— It is a great solution for home breeders like us to increase our number of breeding dogs, without having to house them all under our roof. This ensures all of our dogs lead spoiled lives complete with lots of love with their “forever families”
When you adopt one of our puppies through our Guardian program, you get some sweet benefits: our pick of the litter for a greatly reduced price and full ownership of your puppy. Our Labradoodles that normally cost you $2000 will be $900 for Guardians. Our Bernedoodles, normally $2900, will be $1900.
The exchange is that you allow us to breed that dog (a female for up to 3 litters within 5 years, or a male to mate with our females several times each year, until pup is 5 years of age). The only downside—your female will live with us for 5-6 weeks for delivery and until puppies are weaned from Mommy’s milk. For your trouble, we will pay you $500/litter for the inconvenience. You are welcome to visit anytime after puppies are 4 weeks old. If you have a male guardian, we will borrow him for 3-5 days at a time, three to five times per year. (Lucky boy!)
That said, each guardian dog will go through extensive genetic and health testing around the 1 year mark. Not all dogs will be suitable for breeding. Please don’t think they are in any way less healthy or valuable—they may have a recessive gene that won’t affect their health, but we don’t want to risk passing it along to future generations. If this is the case, you will have no further breeding obligation, and the dog will be spayed or neutered and continue their wonderful life with your family. Delaney Park Doodles will pay for the Spay/Neuter regardless when that is going to be done.
To be considered as a Guardian Home for one of our breeding dogs:
—We require that you live within 2 hours of our home, (we live in Central FL)
—It is necessary that you have physical fencing to provide a safe and secure place for the puppy
—You must own your own home
—It is important that you have a schedule that will allow for your dog to not be left alone for extended periods of time (adult dogs are fine for up to 8 hours, but puppies will need more frequent trips outside)
—All dogs and pups placed with Guardian Families must be indoor dogs, and never be left outside unattended, especially when in heat
—Guardian families must have reliable transportation, and a willingness to bring the Guardian dog/pup to us (or meet us at a convenient halfway point) when needed throughout the year
—All normal food and Veterinary expenses will be the obligation of the Guardian family. All health testing, breeding and spay/neuter costs will be the responsibility of Delaney Park Doodles
—Most important–you must agree to make the guardian dog available to us when we need them for breeding. We have a very small fertility window with each dog’s heat, and though we can approximate the timing for heat, it isn’t always on schedule!
